Republic of Indonesia abbreviated RI or Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia, which is crossed by the equator and located between the continents of Asia and Australia as well as between the Pacific and Indian Ocean. Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic country consisting of 17,508 islands, therefore it is called also as the Nusantara (Archipelago Between). With a population of 222 million people in 2006.
From Sabang to Merauke, Indonesia consists of distinct ethnic, linguistic and religious differences. Indonesia's national motto, "Unity in Diversity" ("Different but one"), articulates the diversity that shapes the country.
Indonesia is a country with thousands of islands and various customs therein. In addition it also did not escape with their traditional food. Indonesia has a variety of traditional foods from Sabang to Merauke. Any kind of food in Indonesia, ranging from the sweet, spicy, salty and so forth.
Indonesian cuisine varies depending on its territory. Rice is the staple food and is served with side dishes of meat and vegetables. Spices (notably chili), coconut milk, fish and chicken are an important ingredient.
Throughout history, Indonesia has become a place of trade between the two continents. This causes entrainment many spices, food ingredients and cooking techniques from the nation's own Malay, Indian, Middle Eastern, Chinese, and European. All this mixed with typical traditional Indonesian food, a lot of diversity not found in other areas. Even the Spanish and Portuguese, had preceded the Dutch to carry many products from the new world to Indonesia.
